General Guidel ines for Installation of “UES” Brand Earthing Electrodes.
It is recommended to always use 3 Mtrs. Earthing Electrode, as it is closer to the natural moisture and gives optimum results. - Check the soil condition if it is of clay/marshy soil, or farm soil with black or Red soil then 6” to 10” dia of drilling is sufficient. If the soil is rocky, Sandy, River Sand or it is topped with debris, then a pit of min. 1.5 Mt r. x 1.5 Mtr. is to be dug ¼ mtr more than the length of the Electrode. The earth pit is to be dug at least 5 feet away from any const ructed wall by which the dissipation of fault current would be unhindered.
- Fill the drilled hole/pit with 6” of good soil then add some quantity of MFC-20 (Mineral Fil l ing Compound) on top and pour water to make the base wet. Lower the UES ELECTRODE in upright position to the bottom of the pit. Do not hammer the UES. Pour in the MFC – 20 dry mixed wi th good soil sur rounding along with adequate water so as the soil gets set around the UES making a very good contact between the UES & the Earth Mass.
- Note: On no account the elect rode should be left above the ground level more than the terminal. You can Mix MFC – 20 with the parent soil if the soil is Clay, Black Cotton, or Red Soil NOT OTHERWISE and before mixing it the stones & pebbles are to be removed, pour this mixture/MFC-20 surrounding of the UES along with adequate water so as the soil sets around the UES creat ing a very good contact between the UES and the earth mass. The Mineral Filling has to be done very tightly if required you can use some pressure from the top. Make a note that the resistance values would be affected badly if there are stones or sand in the earth pit.
- Water the pit adequately while installing the UES earthing elect rodes and once the above installation is complete water the pit for a few days, say 15 to 20 Ltrs on alternate days, same in summer weather conditions only (If temperature is above 40 degree centigrade). The watering is to be done on the ground around the pit not in the pit.
- Now after 15 days you can measure the resistance, if you find the resistance higher than your requirement you can install more number of pieces and interconnecting them with each other. While installing kindly make a strict note that the distance between the 2 elect rodes should be minimum equal to the length of the Electrode. Construct a chamber surrounding the UES with brickwork leave the bottom of the chamber open. Close the chamber with a manhole cover for easy access. Do not pour water over the UES, but water it’s surrounding on the surface and make it moisturized rather than drenching the earth pit itself.
